SOCIAL JUSTICE

What We Do

Social justice in Tanzania faces significant challenges, particularly for women, who continue to experience disparities in access to resources, opportunities, and rights. According to the World Bank (2022), while Tanzania has made progress in gender parity in primary education, with a 94% enrollment rate for girls, dropout rates remain high, especially in secondary school, due to factors like early marriage and poverty. The UNICEF Tanzania Country Report (2021) highlights that 31% of girls in Tanzania are married before the age of 18, limiting their educational and economic prospects. Additionally, women’s participation in the labor force is constrained, with only 26.5% of women engaged in formal employment compared to 40.2% of men, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (2019). Gender-based violence is another critical issue, with 40% of women aged 15-49 experiencing physical or sexual violence, according to the Tanzania Demographic and Health Survey (2022). These statistics underscore the systemic barriers women face in achieving equality and justice.
